Detectives investigating the death of a woman in Colchester have arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

Police were called by the ambulance service shortly after 7.45pm yesterday to reports a 37-year-old woman had been found dead at an address in Avignon Close, which is in the Old Heath area of the town.

A 43-year-old man from Colchester has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the incident.

He is currently in police custody where he is being questioned.

Neighbours in Avignon Close were shocked when they heard the news this morning.

Many said they had been suffering from anti-social behaviour for years.

One woman, who did not want to be named, said her curtains had been drawn at the time of the incident.

She said: “There’s been so much swearing and shouting until 2am. We’ve had stabbings too.

“I couldn’t tell you how many times we have had problems.”

“I feel so sorry for her. It’s just awful.

“We didn’t have anything to do with them.”
