POLICE have today launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a man’s body in a flat in Sudbury.

Patrick Baker, who was 45 years old, was found dead at his home on Blackfriars after police were called at 10.36am on the morning of Saturday, April 10 by a neighbour concerned for his safety.

A murder inquiry has now been launched after an examination concluded he had died from “multiple injuries”.

Detective Inspector Andy Smith, of the Suffolk and Norfolk Major Investigation Team, said: “Detectives have been working with a Home Office pathologist and crime scene experts, and we have concluded that Mr Baker died as a result of multiple injuries he sustained, which are as a likely consequence of an assault.

“As well as carrying out further inquiries at Mr Baker’s flat and in the local area, we particularly want to hear from two groups of people. Firstly, I want to hear from anyone who knew Patrick, and who may be able to help us establish his movements between midday on Friday 9th April and when his body was found on Saturday morning.

“Secondly, I want to speak to anyone who may have been in the area of Blackfriars in the early hours of Saturday 10th April. We have received reports of a disturbance at Mr Baker’s home during this time, and want to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious.”

He added: “People would have been returning home from a night out by foot, or by taxi or car around this time. This is an isolated incident - Sudbury is a safe place, and as such you may not think you saw anything of note.

“However I would urge anyone who was in the area or passing through to contact us as you could hold information which may assist with this inquiry.”

Anyone with any information about Mr Baker’s death should contact the Suffolk and Norfolk Major Investigation Team on 01473 613500, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
