A GERMAN man accused of murdering Nottingham student Matthew Pyke has appeared before a District Judge at Nottingham Magistrates' Court.
Dressed in a grey long-sleeved zip-up top, grey jogging bottoms and trainers, David Heiss, 21, appeared before District Judge Morris Cooper charged with murder.
Computer games enthusiast Matthew Pyke was found dead in his flat above the Orange Tree pub, in North Sherwood Street, on September 19 by his girlfriend Joanna Witton.
The 20-year-old moved to Nottingham two years ago and was due to start a degree at Nottingham Trent University last month.
Heiss clutched a novel throughout the hearing.
He used a German interpreter to translate all proceedings into German and answered in English.
He confirmed he spoke good English but when asked if he would like to carry on without the interpreter he said: “I think I will make use of the interpreter.”
Heiss of Dauborn, near Limburg, in the Hessen region of Germany, was arrested in Germany on September 24 and was brought back to the UK on Tuesday (25).
He was remanded in custody and will appear at Nottingham Crown Court by video link on December 10.
There was no application for bail.
