A much-loved free music event is returning to a Suffolk resort this summer after a two-year absence – and organisers hope it will raise a big sum for charity.

Music by the Sea, which was held from 2012 on the seafront at Aldeburgh, was replaced by Thorpefest, a ticketed festival at Thorpeness Country Club, after organisers said it was “time for a change, a new adventure”.

But this summer Music by the Sea will return – though not on the seafront, but inland.

Peter Osborne, managing director, Coastal Operations, for the TA Hotel Collection, said, “We are delighted to once again be holding Music by the Sea back in Aldeburgh this year thanks to the kind support of Aldeburgh Town Council. We look forward to getting everyone up dancing and enjoying themselves.”

The charity supported will be Inspire Suffolk, which helps young people to overcome challenges and onto a positive future in employment or further training through its numerous personal development programmes and activities.

Terry Baxter, chief executive of Inspire Suffolk, said: “We cannot thank Peter Osborne enough for the ongoing dedicated support of our charity, as well as the sponsors and the team for creating such a beneficial opportunity for us to raise much needed funds for young people in our county.”

The open-air event will take place on Saturday, June 30 with a line-up of national and local artists performing from 4pm on King’s Field, Saxmundham Road.

Top acts include an ELO tribute band and popular Suffolk band Albion Mills playing their repertoire of 60s and 70s classic rock and pop. Other confirmed performers include Everly Everly and JS & The Lockerbillies.

Prosecco, Pimm’s and beer marquees, plus a BBQ and alternative food outlets from Suffolk, will feature along with a children’s area to keep little ones happily entertained, while a firework display will bring the evening to a rousing finale at 10pm.

The event is being sponsored by the TA Hotel Collection, Suffolk Secrets, East of England Co-op and Direct Seafoods.

There will be a park and ride service to this free event operating from two Thorpeness car park areas, as well as parking next to the concert arena. More details and how to book will be announced soon on www.musicbythesea.co.uk
