WOODBRIDGE and Colchester-based soldiers have been chosen to carry the coffin of Baroness Thatcher at her funeral on Wednesday.

More than 800 members of the Armed Forces will be involved in the ceremonial funeral of the former UK Prime Minister at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Corporal Carl Spence, 29, from 9 Parachute Squadron, Royal Engineers, which is part of Woodbridge-based 23 Engineer Regiment (Air Assault), and Lance Corporal James Steel, 24, from 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, based in Colchester, are part of the bearer party.

In total eight personnel from all three Services, including those from ships, units and stations notable for their service during the Falklands Campaign, make up the bearer party.

They will be followed by two Cap Orderlies who will hold the caps of the eight bearers when they carry Baroness Thatcher’s coffin.
