Celebrating the Queen’s silver jubilee saw communities across the country getting together – and in Felixstowe a group which met on the day is still the best of friends.

Back in 1977, St George’s Road, Old Felixstowe, held a traditional street party for the royal occasion.

That led to the group of neighbours deciding to get together on a regular basis to socialise, fostering great community spirit – and this summer they celebrated 40 years of activities.

Resident Anne Ravenscroft said: “Out of that street party came our famous monthly coffee mornings.

“These are now so popular that we have to meet in the Old Felixstowe Community Centre as very few homes can accommodate 25-plus regular attendees.”

To mark the 40th anniversary, the group held a special party. Mrs Ravenscroft said: “There was such a happy atmosphere and the Orwell Hotel staff could not have been more helpful.”
