Chris Rowbury is looking for people aged 16 to 80 to help him create a new choir – something he aims to do in just one morning.

There will be no auditions, no sheet music and no solo singing as Mr Rowbury hopes singers of all levels of experience – or none at all – will join in with his project and become singers within a day.

Mr Rowbury has been a singing teacher for 30 years, and founded community choir The OK Chorale in 2011.

It’s not the first time Mr Rowbury has attempted to put together a performance in a short period of time, and has in the past trained up choirs in as little as six weeks.

This time, however, his challenge is even greater as his time is even shorter.

According to Mr Rowbury, the singers will have around three hours to get to grips with four songs.

They will be performing these in public later that day – with a tea break in the middle, to keep them refreshed.

Despite the small amount of time they have to get up to speed, Mr Rowbury is confident the choir will be able to perform.

“It’s amazing we just proceed as if it is the easiest thing in the world,” said Mr Rowbury.

“Lots of smiling and jokes. It’s only afterwards they realise how hard it is.”

He hopes the morning will be a magical experience for those who get involved as they quickly build up three or four part harmonies from scratch.

“My speciality is creating beautiful harmonies with large groups of people, many of whom don’t think they can ‘sing’,” said Mr Rowbury.

He added that he believed everyone could sing – just that some were better than others.

Those wishing to get involved in the choir should meet at Melton Primary School on Saturday, July 14, at 11am to start learning the songs.

The special choir’s performance will be taking place just a few hours later at 2.30pm at the Melton Village Fete on Melton Playing Fields.

There will be a charge of £10 to take part in the choir to cover costs.
