Mayor of Stowmarket, Dave Muller opened the play area and children were not only able to try out the new play equipment but were also able to try their hand at circus skills, have their face painted and receive a balloon model.

Deputy mayor Ms Linda Baxter, who led on the project, said: “I think the new layout works brilliantly and ties the whole play area together. It is lovely to see it being so popular already.”

Stowmarket Town Council invested £40,000 in the improvements and received an additional £10,000 from Mid Suffolk District Council. The main feature of the play area is the innovative double cable ways which allows children to race each other – it is believed to be the only one of its type in Suffolk. New swings were added, along with a seesaw, multi play unit and roundabout.

The inclusive design means it is suitable for children of all ages and abilities.
