ANOTHER nuclear power station will be built at Sizewell, the government has announced this afternoon.

ANOTHER nuclear power station will be built at Sizewell, the government has announced this afternoon.

Any planning application for the site will also be fast tracked to ensure the development happens quickly, energy secretary Ed Miliband said today.

Last year the government decided to go ahead with a new generation of nuclear plants to replace the UK's ageing nuclear infrastructure.

Today Mr Miliband ahs announced 10 suitable sites - which includes Sizewell in Suffolk and Bradwell in Essex.

They hope the first of a new generation of stations can come on stream as early as 2017.

Ministers hope the planning reforms, which will mean future schemes will not be subject to a public inquiry, will avoid delays like the six-year struggle to get Sizewell B approved.

The news has led to calls from Suffolk Coastal District Council and anti-nuclear campaigners to ensure local people are given a full and fair say in the decision making process.
