A new £7million cancer care centre – offering expert radiotherapy, chemotherapy and health and wellbeing services – has opened in west Suffolk.

The GenesisCare centre, in Fordham Road, Newmarket, enables people living in Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk to access private cancer care.

The centre will provide a local option for people with many different types of cancer including breast, prostate, lung, bowel, brain, head and neck, and neurological.

Aldo Rolfo, GenesisCare general manager UK, said: “The new centre will give people within East Anglia the opportunity to receive fast and easy access to the very best cancer care, close to home.

“We are working with the best clinicians in the country who are excited to be working in an environment which can provide the speed and quality of service, that patients need and deserve.”

The centre has been designed in collaboration with the medical and clinical oncologists who will treat patients at the facility.

By Summer 2018, the Newmarket centre will provide a wide range of services, including diagnostics, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other wellness support services.

The development of the new centre will lead to 30 new jobs associated with clinical services including; doctors, nurses, clinical scientists, pharmacists, radiation therapists and counsellors.

Jobs for patient services staff and other professional groups such as IT, engineering, secretarial and cleaning services will also be generated.

George Follows, consultant haematologist and blood cancer specialist at Cambridge University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I am absolutely delighted that GenesisCare have chosen Newmarket to build their new ‘state-of-the-art’ cancer centre to serve the patients of Cambridge and the east of England.

“GenesisCare have a long track record both internationally and within the UK of delivering superb care for cancer patients.

“Not only is this care delivered using the most up to date cutting edge technology, but as specialists in cancer care, they have developed a strong emphasis on holistic care, caring for the whole individual rather than just treating the disease.

“I and my consultant colleagues from Cambridge are delighted to join their team at this new centre and we are really excited that the first patients are now being seen and treated.”
