The hit show, starring Claire Foy and Matt Smith, returns to Netflix this Friday for season two, with the final day of the production’s filming having come to west Suffolk.

In May, the production wrapped with the final scenes shot at Elveden Hall, which doubled for locations in Ghana.

The filming came just weeks before Ridley Scott’s latest blockbuster All the Money in the World graced the same location for flashback scenes in July.

Film location company Film Fixer, which manages Screen Suffolk, had worked closely with the production in London, and helped secure the hall for the production to come to Suffolk.

Screen Suffolk director Karen Everett said: “The stunning eastern interiors are a hangover from when the Maharajah of the Punjab, Prince Frederick Duleep Singh owned the hall. He was creating these beautiful rooms in the 1870s.

“Screen Suffolk was not directly involved in arranging this shoot. However, we like to think that our ongoing advocacy is partly responsible, and location managers are now more likely to ask themselves whether they could shoot the required scenes in Suffolk.

“We are delighted the county attracted this very prestigious, big budget production.

“Reputation is very important in the film business. This shoot is further testament to the county’s diversity and film-friendly attitude.”

The set was used for the shooting of scenes charting the Queen’s visit to Ghana in 1961, deemed controversial at the time because of the authoritarian rule in the country.

Her visit there was hailed as a resounding success in easing tensions.

The impressive Elveden Hall has been used by a host of top film productions over the past 30 years, including Stanley Kubrick’s swansong Eyes Wide Shut, James Bond flick The Living Daylights and action adventure romp Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

Screen Suffolk was awarded the contract to bring TV, film, advert, shorts and photography shoots to the county on behalf of Suffolk County Council in 2016.

The tie-up aims to boost Suffolk’s tourism, film and catering economies.
