TWO men have been charged by police this morning in connection with an assault on a couple in a park-and-shuttle site which left a man in an intensive care unit with severe head injuries.
The assault in a car park on Fornham Road, Newmarket followed an “altercation” at around 1am on Friday, July 31.
Michael Sheldrake, 23, of Laurel Close, Red Lodge and Lee Sparks, 23, of West Street, Icklingham have both been charged with GBH. They have been remanded in custody and are due to appear before West Suffolk Magistrates Court in Bury St Edmunds this morning.
A 54-year-old man from the Mildenhall area who was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice has been released on police bail pending further enquiries and is due to return to Bury Police Station on September 21.
The injured man remains in Addenbrookes Hospital in a serious but stable condition. Four other people arrested in connection with the incident remain on police bail and are due to return to Bury Police Station on September 14.
