A woman has been bitten by a dog in Newmarket, prompting a police appeal for witnesses.

The woman, 41, was walking her pet dog along a grassy area between Greville Starkey Avenue and Elliot Close when they were approached by a black dog not on a lead.

The dog started to attack the victim’s dog. She picked up her dog to protect it but was then bitten on her arm, causing three puncture wounds.

The person believed to have been with the dog is described as between 5ft 10ins and 6ft tall, of medium build with dark hair. The dog was black with a ridge along its back.
