Two people have been arrested following a pursuit along the A14 after an attempted theft from an articulated lorry in Newmarket.

Officers were called shortly before 12.40am to reports of a crime that was taking place in Oaks Drive, Newmarket.

Suffolk police located a car which was believed to have been involved in the earlier incident in the Rougham area.

Officers tried to speak to a man but he made off in the vehicle.

They then pursued the vehicle down the A14 and arrested two men a short time later.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle. He remains at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre, where he was taken for questioning.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug, for failing to stop for police, for driving with excess drugs, for attempted burglary, driving without a licence and for driving without insurance.

Police have also arrested him on suspicion of fraud by false representation and driving whilst disqualified.

He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he currently remains.

Mildenhall Police tweeted their praise to all involved in the incident: “Fantastic work from all involved.”
