MORE than 600 people have joined an internet tribute page in memory of a 17-year-old motorcyclist from Newmarket who died on Sunday.

Shaun Liam Cronin, of Manderston Road, Newmarket, was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics after he lost control of the Kawasaki motorcycle he was riding and was in collision with a lamp post.

Suffolk Police was contacted by the ambulance service just after 5.35pm reporting a collision in Willie Snaith Road, Newmarket.

Yesterday, a Facebook page in his memory had about 680 members and tributes have been pouring in.

Kieran Cronin said: “I can sit here and try and type out paragraphs but the words never come out right so I’m just going to try my best.

“I honestly can’t put into words how much I’m going to miss you bro, it’s not fair you had so much to give with all your crazy mechanic skills, I hope wherever you are you can see all this and just how much people are going to miss you man.

“Over 600 people, I didn’t even realise so many people knew you and seeing them all here showing their love for you just makes it all seem so much more unfair.

“You best be saving me a stretch of road and a cool bike up their bud cos we will have that ride one day I promise you.”

Keighley Cronin said she will always remember her baby brother for being so funny and full of life.

She said: “I miss you so much. I know I promised to be strong for you and mum and dad but I don’t know if I can. I love you baby brother, always xxxxxx”

Many of those leaving tributes on the page are former school friends of Shaun’s, who it is understood attended Newmarket College.

Adrianna Onesie said: “Shaun, I will never forget our gossip time and laughs back at school. I always remember you being the funny guy who always had a smile on his face.

“I still can’t believe it. Maybe we weren’t as close, but I still can’t stop crying about the fact. RIP Shaun, you will never be forgotten.”

Dan Bannister said he thought it would be appropriate to mention “you [Shaun] should never have been riding at that time if it wasn’t for your selflessness staying behind at work to help someone out, which in my opinion shows real character”.

•Police arrested a 30-year-old man from Newmarket, who is believed to have been driving a VW Bora in close proximity to the motorcycle, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The man has been bailed pending further inquiries and will return to the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre on September 3.

An investigation is under way to determine exactly what happened, and police have spoken to a number of witnesses but are asking anyone who may have seen the vehicles prior to collision or the crash itself, who has not yet talked to officers, to call Pc Danny Ormes at the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Suffolk Police on 101.
