A woman on crutches had more than £200 robbed from her handbag as she walked down a street in Newmarket.

The incident took place at around 9.30pm yesterday in Park Lane.

The woman, in her thirties, who was walking with crutches, had made her way back from the High Street via Kingston Passage, before reaching the area of the footpath near to Sunnyside flats.

At this point she as approached from behind by a man who then tried to snatch her bag but as she had the strap across her body he was unable to get it over her head.

The suspect managed to unzip the bag, taking the victim’s purse which he discarded after removing £240 of cash from inside it.

He then shouted “Oi” at the victim, before making off up Park Lane towards the area of Park Avenue and Granby Street.

The suspect is described as a white man, around 5ft 5in tall, of medium build, with thin stubble visible on his face. He was wearing a dark blue or black hooded top, grey jogging bottoms and what were believed to be padded, ski-style, dark blue gloves.
