Three hundred well-dressed guests were evacuated from St Edmundsbury Cathedral this evening after a fire alarm disrupted the Norfolk and Suffolk Tourism Awards 2018.

Festivities at the black-tie event in Bury St Edmunds were disturbed when the fire alarm sounded at around 7.30pm and the entire party was evacuated out of the venue.

A fire crew attended the scene and checked over the building as men and women in bow ties and evening gowns waited in a fire safety area.

The crews quickly confirmed it was a false alarm and allowed guests back into the building.

The awards ceremony, sponsored by Hoseasons, is now back in full swing and winners are expected to be announced in thirteen categories.
