POLICE officers are today renewing their appeal for help in their hunt for thieves who stole the silver nose cone from a fighter plane parked on a Suffolk airfield.

The fighter plane was on the runway at the former RAF Bentwaters site at Rendlesham between Tuesday, August 17 and 5pm on Wednesday, August 25 when it was targeted.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said the plane was awaiting refit before being shipped to a private buyer.

“Someone forced the metre-long nose cone from it and took it,” she said. “It’s thought more than one offender would have been involved due to its weight and size, but it would be of minimal value as scrap.”

Anyone who has any information about the theft, the thieves or where the nose cone is now should call PC 1713 Breeze on 01473 613500.
