War veterans were honoured as Felixstowe Army Cadets hosted an open day at their home, the Drill Hall in Garrison Lane.

Pictures that captured the day in 2006 show cadets demonstrating their gun handling skills.

At the event, people paid tribute to the cadets and a plaque was unveiled in memory of war veteran and former town mayor Sid Knight, who used to live in Seaton Road with his wife Win.

BBC Radio Suffolk presenter Rachel Sloane, who retired from the station in March 2008 but lives in Felixstowe, opened the event.

The Army Cadet Force is one of the country’s largest voluntary youth organisations. It is also one of the oldest, tracing its history back to 1859. The Felixstowe Cadets are part of the the Royal Regiment of Artillery Detachment.

Were you one of the cadet mascots or did you attend the Felixstowe Army Cadets’ open day in 2006?
