It was a case of look up, look down and look all around as RAF Bentwaters held its open day in 1970.
As the magnificent men took to their flying machines visitors of all ages gathered to watch the skies fill with different sorts of aircraft.
The event seems to have been held on a bright day in 1970, with the crowds of spectators having to shield their eyes from the sun to get a good view of the planes in the sky.
Meanwhile, back on solid ground, visitors were able to learn about the site with the opportunity to sit in – or rather on – planes and get up close to some genuine military equipment all aided by staff from the base.
The event at RAF Bentwaters remained popular for many years bringing in scores of local families to see what was going on their own doorstep.
