OLYMPIC stars Darren Campbell and Linford Christie will be taking to the track on Yarmouth's seafront next month in a bid to find the county's next athletic prodigy.

The two champion athletes will be hosting a street athletics competition on Marine Parade on Friday, July 4 to hopefully discover future Olympic gold medal winners.

Youngsters will be able to show off their sprinting talents as they race down a cordoned area of the Esplanade.

The fastest competitors from the race event will then be invited to attend a special coaching session held by Olympic bronze medal winner Katherine Merry at Yarmouth's Wellesley recreation ground on Monday, July 14.

And chosen talented runners will then be able to take part in a national event in Manchester later in the year.

There are four age ranges for the July 4 street athletics event - from under 13's to under 20's - and it runs from 4pm to 7pm. All participants will receive a free t-shirt and dog tags.

The competition is organised by Linford Christie's Nuff Respect campaign, which aims to bring sport to children in deprived urban areas, and Yarmouth Borough Council.

To register for the event e-mail jp@great-yarmouth.gov.uk, call 01493 846446 or pick up an application form from the Marina Centre.
