IT was only a few days ago that teenage gymnast sensation Louis Smith was hitting the heady heights of becoming an Olympic medal winner - but now all he wants is to spend some time with his mates on a caravan holiday in the region.

The 19-year-old, who won bronze in the men's pommel horse event, revealed a trip to the seaside at Great Yarmouth is on the agenda after his return from Beijing.

“I'm going on holiday to Great Yarmouth with my friends. A lot of them are skint and some of them have been on holiday already. “But with me missing the holiday season being out here, I said I would pay for the caravan,” Louis told the national media.

“It won't be as warm, but I'll have my own friends and a relaxed time. All my mates are saying I am a celebrity now; it is so amazing. But I'm still the same old Louis to them because they know all the old stories about me.”

Louis, from Peterborough, became Britain's first Olympic gymnastics medal winner for 80 years and he will spend some time back in the gym before his well-earned break in Yarmouth.

While it has not emerged where in the resort Louis will be staying, David Leech, general manager of the Vauxhall Holiday Park, said: “If he comes to Vauxhall, it would be a complete package. Apart from the accommodation, there is the fun pool and entertainment. Everything is here - including a gym.

“He would certainly have a good time and I expect he just needs somewhere to chill out.”
