Residents in Sudbury are being asked in an online survey to say how they want a new skate park in the town to look and how to be used.

Options include skateboarding, rollerblading, scooters, BMX or a mixture of these.

The poll also asks for people’s views on the layout of the skatepark in Belle Vue Park, including whether it should be plaza style, have ramps and bowls or flow between the two.

Residents have the opportunity to recommend other skate parks they have enjoyed using, so that aspects of these could be incorporated into the design.

The survey follows a number of meetings with skate park users in the town and discussions with the town council and local residents about what they are looking for in the new facilities.

The survey is an opportunity for those who have not fed back so far to do so before final plans are drawn up.

The survey can be completed online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5SJBKXB and residents have until Sunday, May 13, to submit their responses, after which Babergh officers will work on incorporating their feedback into any tender issued.

The council hopes to see the new skate park open for use before the end of 2018.

Margaret Maybury, Babergh District Council’s portfolio holder for Communities, said: “Skaters have been able to enjoy the facilities in Belle Vue Park for years but the current skate park has become old, outdated and in desperate need of an upgrade.

“We at Babergh are delighted to support this, but before work begins we need to know what people want for a new skate park. Anyone can take part in this survey and I can’t wait to see what designs come out of it.”

Babergh District councillor Jan Osborne, who has been involved in the project since its inception, said: “The skate park group and the council have put in a lot of effort to bring this project this far, and Jonathan Sandford, who has worked tirelessly to build links between the community and Babergh, has been inspirational.

“The new skate park could be open before the end of the year, but first we need to make sure any design will meet the needs of the community. That’s why I’d urge everyone to take the time to fill in the survey and let us know what they want for this new skate park.”
