There are only a few days left for schools to sign up for our Sports for Schools competition.
Schools from across Suffolk and north Essex can get involved with all being in the chance of winning money for new sports equipment.
Back in 2016, the winners of the competition were Eyke CEVC Primary School.
Headteacher Lucie Fairweather said: “We were thrilled to win the Sports for Schools competition; it shows what fantastic support we have from our parents and the local community.
“Participation in sport is so crucial for every child’s development.
“As well as keeping children physically fit, it ensures they have the opportunity to work as a team and challenge themselves physically and mentally.
“With ever tighter restrictions on budgets, awards like this offer a massive boost, especially to small schools like ours.
“With the money we received from the EADT we have been able to buy equipment not only to support the PE curriculum, but also for the children to use at playtime meaning they are fit and happy when they come back into class.”
As well as £5,000 to spend on sports equipment, the school were also treated to a visit by British hurdler Serita Soloman who helped to inspire youngsters at the school to get involved with sport.
Many schools have already signed up to take part in the competition.
To help your child’s school, all you have to do is collect tokens which will be printed in this paper from next Monday.
Each weekday paper will contain one token with the Saturday edition of the EADT containing two. Other editions may contain bonus tokens.
Every school which collects more than 1,000 tokens will receive a free sports kit worth over £60.
The three schools which collect the most tokens will receive £5,000, £3,000 and £1,000 respectively to spend on new sporting equipment.
Schools of all sizes have a chance to win as the winners are decided on a pro-rata basis.
Any schools wanting to take part in the competition need to be signed up by this weekend.
To get involved simply send the school name, address, postcode and telephone number as well as a contact name, and the number of pupils at the school to this email.
