Headteacher Lucie Fairweather said: “We were thrilled to win the Sports for Schools competition; it shows what fantastic support we have from our parents and the local community.

“Participation in sport is so crucial for every child’s development.

“As well as keeping children physically fit, it ensures they have the opportunity to work as a team and challenge themselves physically and mentally.

“With ever tighter restrictions on budgets, awards like this offer a massive boost, especially to small schools like ours.

“With the money we received from the EADT we have been able to buy equipment not only to support the PE curriculum, but also for the children to use at playtime meaning they are fit and happy when they come back into class.”

As well as £5,000 to spend on sports equipment, the school were also treated to a visit by British hurdler Serita Soloman who helped to inspire youngsters at the school to get involved with sport.

Many schools have already signed up to take part in the competition.

To help your child’s school, all you have to do is collect tokens which will be printed in this paper from next Monday.
