A group of Year 5 and 6 children from Orford CEVA Primary School have qualified for the world finals of a maths and engineering competition.

The competition is called Maths in Motion Challenge for Schools.

The pupils have spent the year learning how to modify and tweak the engine of an F1 car using an online software.

It involves maths which is beyond what they would normally do as part of the curriculum and hundreds of thousands of pupils worldwide take part.

Only 28 schools (14 primary and 14 secondary) from around the world have made it through to the knockout rounds and semi-finals.

The finals are due to take place on 20th June and if the Orford pupils were to qualify it would be the second time they’d have made it this far.

Teacher Gemma Cannon said: “The children have worked really hard all year and we are so proud to see them achieve such an amazing feat.”
