Overnight closures on the Orwell Bridge will begin tonight and will run until Saturday, October 7.
The A14 over the bridge will be closed in both directions between 9pm and 5am on week nights as part of a detailed inspection of the 35-year-old bridge to ensure it remains in good condition and to plan future maintenance.
A fully signed diversion will direct traffic between junction 55 for Copdock, and 58 for Seven Hills, via the A1156, A1189 and A1214 around the north of Ipswich.
The maintenance began in August of the underside of the bridge, where Highways England engineers abseiled and used drones to inspect its condition. The majority of work has caused minimal impact to the 60,000 drivers who use the bridge each day, but overnight closures between Monday and Friday are needed to complete the work.
Lane one between junction 55 and 58 will also undergo resurfacing work during the overnight closures, as well as gulley and drainage clearance.
All dates are subject to changes based on weather and other conditions, including the resident nesting peregrine falcons, by taking place at the end of their nesting season.
