Work to improve safety on the Orwell Bridge is continuing overnight – but daytime traffic is not being affected by the work.

Highways England is carrying out work to install new safety cameras, paint new markings on the road, near Ipswich, and install new signs warning drivers of the 60mph speed limit that is being introduced from next spring.

The work is being carried out between 8pm and 6am every night – during which time there are lane closures and a 40mph temporary speed limit is being enforced.

The new speed limit is aimed at reducing the number of accidents on the bridge – which have a major knock-on effect on the roads around the Ipswich area as traffic diverts into the town centre from the A14.
