FIREFIGHTERS have tackled a large blaze in the roof of a barn conversion.
The incident at a property in Lord’s Lane, Ousden, was reported at just after 1.20pm and a number of appliances were sent to the scene.
Pumps from Newmarket and Clare, three from Bury St Edmunds, a support unit from Ixworth, a water carrier from Newmarket and a turntable ladder from Bury St Edmunds headed to the property. Crews from Elmsewll and Mildenhall were sent to provide cover at Bury and Newmarket as a consequence.
A Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the roof of the wooden building, measuring 30 metres by 10 metres, was well alight and the water carrier was called out due to limited supplies in the area.
Firefighters used four hose reels and a jet to tackle the flames, which were out by 3.30pm, and efforts were made to salvage the property.
