The success of a musical masterclass for primary school children has been trumpeted by organisers.
More than 200 primary school children from across Suffolk gathered for the second-annual ‘Blast Off!’ event at the Royal Hospital School in Holbrook yesterday.
Some of the UK’s leading trombonists, including Gordon Campbell, principle trombonist of the BBC Big Band, and Simon Minshall, chairman of the British Trombone Society, led the brass instrument beginner lessons.
‘Revolutionary’ plastic instruments pBone and pBuzz, which have the same note-range as a recorder, were used before children performed a concert to parents and teachers.
Richard Harvey, the school’s bandmaster and event organiser, said: “It was a brilliant day. We spotted some real potential for great musicians of the future and I hope some of them will be inspired to continue with brass. The pBuzz and pBone are such a good first step.”
