Social media users in Suffolk have caught a glimpse of the work carried out every day by the county’s police force during a 24 hour Tweetathon.
Since 7am yesterday, control room staff have tweeted basic information about the calls they receive.
Ending the live-tweeting exercise at the same time today, bosses revealed they had taken 748 calls and issued around 500 tweets.
The initiative, which follows similar ventures carried out by the East of England Ambulance Service, has had a positive reaction from residents.
Many said they were shocked to see how many incidents officers are dealing with on a daily basis.
Chief Inspector Matt Rose, who coordinated the Tweetathon, said: “The feedback that we’ve been getting has been overwhelmingly positive – it’s been a really rewarding experience.”
Domestic abuse incidents, road crashes, broken down vehicles and burglary reports make up just some of the calls made to police over the last 24 hours.
Chiefs said the officers’ tweets had gained thousands of impressions with hundreds of people engaging with the posts.
Chief Insp Rose added: “We work really hard to keep Suffolk safe and we are very proud what we do.
“This is a nice opportunity to show off what we do, particularly as a lot of our work goes on behind close doors and so people are unaware of it.”
