The manager of an Essex garage has praised the quick actions of emergency responders after a lorry ploughed into the forecourt and smashed into several show cars this morning.
The HGV crashed and overturned onto a display of vehicles up for sale at D Salmon Cars in Colchester Road, Weeley around 7.45am.
Two people were taken to Colchester General Hospital – one sustained minor injuries, while the other suffered “injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening”.
An Essex Police spokeswoman said investigations into the incident were ongoing.
Mark Fincham, branch manager of the garage, said nine cars were damaged during the crash, six of which were probably written-off.
He added: “The emergency services were here, they took the two people involved in the accident away in an ambulance.
“The fire brigade and police were here and it was all dealt with extremely efficiently and it’s now done and dusted.
“We have got a lot of damaged vehicles which are getting recovered and taken away and it’s been dealt with through the normal channels.
“It will be business as usual, like it is now.”
Mr Fincham said no staff from the showroom were injured during the collision.
“If nobody has been hurt then it doesn’t matter,” he added. “It was an accident, these things happen, I don’t know how or why it happened but as long as no-one is hurt I’m pretty philosophical about things like that and these things happen.”
The business sells second-hand Subaru cars, which Mr Fincham said could vary in price from £3,000 to £20,000.
He said the costs would be covered by the insurance.
The road was closed while emergency services worked at the scene.
The Essex Police spokeswoman said: “A lorry has overturned on Colchester Road. Two people have been taken to hospital, one with minor injuries, and the other with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
“Our enquiries are ongoing.”
The East of England Ambulance Service was called to the scene at 7.47am.
A spokesman for the trust said: “Two ambulances and an ambulance officer attended the scene to treat two patients, one with neck pain, to Colchester General Hospital for further treatment.”
