A WOMAN was assaulted and a man robbed on the Essex University campus at Wivenhoe, police said today.

The 26-year-old woman was in a car park off Boundary Road at around 1.30am on Sunday when two men approached her, pushed her to the ground and kicked out at her, making lewd comments.

Her friend, a 22-year-old man, was then threatened and forced to hand over his mobile phone.

The robbers then ran off and are thought to have escaped in a burgundy-coloured, mid-size saloon car. They are described as both black, aged between 25 and 30, around 6ft tall and with London accents

One was stocky with a round face, with a tuft of hair on his chin, short neat black hair and was wearing dark clothing.

The other was skinny build, with rough looking skin. He had poor teeth, some of which were possibly missing.

He was wearing a blue, flat peaked baseball cap with an emblem and his hair was described as scruffy. He also wore jeans and a dark blue raincoat.

The victims, who are both local and had been to a musical event, were extremely shaken up and were taken to hospital but did not require treatment. The woman was left with bruises.

Anybody with information about the attack is asked to contact CID at Colchester on 0300 333 4444 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
