Volunteers who help to keep the coast safe are celebrating.

Pakefield Coastwatch, which watches over the mariners and leisure users at the local coastal waters from the watch station manned in the old lighthouse in Pakefield, has received some tremendous news.

Geoff Mann, station manager at Pakefield Coastwatch, said: "Pakefield Coastwatch is proud to announce that we have a Patron.

"On Friday, July 19 the charity was informed by Somerleyton Hall that Lord Somerleyton would be delighted and honoured to accept the role of Patron.

"This is tremendous news for the charity and is a great recognition of the contributions and achievements that Pakefield Coastwatch makes in ensuring safety along the coastline.

"It is a huge credit to all the Pakefield Coastwatch members and supporters that Lord Somerleyton feels he can support us in our endeavours."

Pakefield Coastwatch is part of the Sea Safety Group, an Association of independent coastal surveillance stations, as they assist Her Majesty's Coastguard in helping people in trouble, on or near the sea.
