THE clerk of a parish council in Essex has been charged with a string of fraud offences.

Angela Draper was suspended from role job as clerk at Elmstead Market Parish Council earlier this year after concerns were raised about financial regularities.

A police investigation was launched and it has now been confirmed that the 54-year-old from Elmstead Market has been charged and the case will go to court next month.

She has been charged with five counts of fraud, by abuse of position, between September 2006 and January this year.

There are also four counts of “making a false instrument” between September 2006 and January 2007 under the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act, 1981.

Draper has been bailed to appear before magistrates next month.
