DUDLEY Heathens Speedway chairman Nigel Pearson is 'overwhelmed' by the reaction to the launch of the club - and he's confirmed an application for membership to the 2010 National League has been submitted.

Pearson announced details of the new project in front of a packed audience in Cradley Heath last weekend. Home meetings will be shared between Wolverhampton's Monmore Green Stadium and Perry Barr at Birmingham.

Interest in season tickets has been high and several riders have already been in touch with team manager Will Pottinger about signing for the team - but nothing can be done on team building until the league application has been considered.

Said Pearson: "The reaction has been fantastic. The idea has been welcomed by everyone I've spoken to although the Dudley name has caused debate rather than using the old Cradley name.

"The moment a new permanent home is found for the Heathens to ride at senior level, I will walk away and hand the name back over for Cradley.

"It's been a whirlwind four or five days since we made the announcement and I'm delighted with the response. Season ticket prices will be announced before Christmas and we will get back to everyone who has been in touch.

"As for team building, we have had riders call us but there is nothing we can do until such a time as our application has been considered by the National League."
