A PEDESTRIAN was seriously injured after being hit by a car that left the road on North Hill in Colchester this morning.
The crash happened at around 8.45am when the green VW Golf convertible mounted the pavement and struck the front of an empty property next door to Monty's restaurant.
The man was slammed against the building and suffered two fractured legs and suspected pelvic injuries.
Specialist fire and rescue officers - from the Essex Urban Search and Rescue team - were sent to the scene along with police and the ambulance service.
The building was examined by safety officers from Colchester Borough Council but, although showing signs of damage, was not thought to be structurally dangerous.
The man's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The road was closed in the aftermath of the crash.
