A PEDESTRIAN is fighting for his life today after becoming trapped under a lorry in Newmarket in the early hours of this morning.

A PEDESTRIAN is fighting for his life today after becoming trapped under a lorry in Newmarket in the early hours of this morning.

The man, who is in his 30s, was in collision with the vehicle in High Street at around 12.50am.

Police said he suffered “potentially life-threatening” injuries and severe bleeding in the incident, which happened near the junction with The Avenue.

The road was closed while the emergency services, including paramedics, two ambulance crews and two doctors, tended to the victim.

Firefighters were also called to lift the lorry off the man, who had suffered a serious injury to his leg.

He was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where he remains in a critical condition. The male lorry driver was treated for shock.

The road remained closed throughout the night while specialist road officers from Suffolk police examined the scene. The road did not re-open until 6.40am.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said some of the man's next of kin have been informed.
