A PENSIONER was rescued from a burning flat in Essex this morning.

The 71-year-old woman suffered from smoke inhalation and burns in the blaze, which broke out at a flat in Robinsbridge Road, Coggeshall, at around 5.30am.

Local firefighters were joined by a Braintree crew in extinguishing the fire and then ventilating the flat.

The woman was given first aid at the scene but did not go to hospital.
