A PENSIONER has been taken to hospital after a hit-and-run collision in Sudbury.

POLICE are hunting a hit and run driver whose vehicle collided with a pedestrian causing him serious head injuries.

The 70-year-old was rushed to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds following this morning's accident in Sudbury where police said his condition had improved.

The male motorist, said to be driving a silver hatchback, possibly a Seat Ibiza, initially got out of his car before driving away from the scene of the crash.

The accident happened at the junction of Gregory Street and Stour Street at about 10.15am and caused severe disruption to traffic in the town centre after Sudbury's one-way system was closed off.
