Usain Bolt, Prince Harry and Bradley Wiggins are all in Reydon, near Southwold, this weekend.

But only the champion cyclist will be going face-to-face with his scarecrow-self as he speeds through the village's streets as part of the Tour of Britain today.

If he'd had the chance to have a look around, Mr Wiggins would also have seen the likes of Spiderman, Mr Bump and Long John Silver lining the roads as families enjoy the village's third scarecrow trail.

Yesterday generations joined together in the village as they walked, biked and drove around to see 72 wonderful creations.

Brenda Doy, one of the organisers, said: 'It has been going really well and the weather has helped. There is a real buzz around the village, with so many wandering around and seeing what there is around – it is really great. A real community feel to it.'

Inspiration had come from many different places for the scarecrow makers this year, with a number of topical entrants as well as amusing ones such as a man in a hedge at The Randolph Hotel and Burglar Bill at Southwold Police Station.

Wayne Thomas, of Cox's Lane, created The Cornfield Scarecrow Olympics, complete with Scarecrow Bolt and the music to Chariots of Fire.

'My aim is to get people to laugh,' he said. 'There is a not a huge amount of skill in mine, lots of others put far more into it, for me it is the concept, creating something to get a laugh.'

The trail continues today from 11am to 5pm. Trail programmes are 3 and available from the village hall.

Money raised from the weekend goes towards the Christmas Lights fund, which has to raise 5,800 ahead of the switch-on on Saturday, December 8.
