NEWS that Maldon High Street will soon be home to a Marks and Spencer food store has been hailed as a boost for shoppers and the job market.
The retail giant has announced it is taking over the old Budgens store and will open a 6,300 square foot Simply Food store.
Penny Channer, leader of Maldon District Council, said: “We are delighted at the announcement made by Marks and Spencer that they have chosen Maldon in which to open a new store.
“I am sure that the establishment of such a well known brand can only bring a positive benefit to the town and the district as a whole.
“I hope we will see the continued vibrancy of Maldon High Street and that this store will complement the existing independent shops providing an excellent mix of shopping opportunities to suit everyone.
“It is particularly pleasing to see the significant commitment and investment Marks and Spencer are making to the town and the employment opportunities that this will create.”
