Final plans are being made for the annual Christmas Fair and the switching on of the Christmas lights, in Sudbury.
During the evening there will be a host of events taking place including carols, stalls, a mobile synthetic ice skating rink, an inflatable bouncy snow globe, reindeer and a hand-tame owl, fairground attractions plus a visit by Elsa and Anna, Frozen impersonators.
It all begins at 5pm on Friday, November 24, with the Christmas lights being switched on by the Mayor Sarah Page along with the winner of this year’s Christmas Card Competition, Grace Hiskett, from St Gregory Primary School.
The Christmas tree has been moved from its usual location in King Street to be situated outside St Peter’s Church and Father Christmas is also on the move moving to the new snug and grotto in Holmes and Hills solicitors, in North Street. He will be joined by two of his real life reindeer and sleigh parked outside from 5pm.
During the evening there will be carols played around the Christmas tree by the Salvation Army and the Choral Society will be singing carols in St Peter’s. There will be a Christmas Craft Fair inside the church plus a selection of stalls outside in North Street, Kings Street and Old Market Place.
Other attractions include eliminator and cage rides for adults, cups and saucer ride, bungee trampolines and swing chairs for children and various other fairground games and the Phoenix Suffolk Community Marchers will be performing.
Town centre manager and event co-ordinator Ami Birrell said: “It’s been both challenging and exciting organising this year’s Christmas Fair for the first time. I hope the introduction of real life reindeer and the grotto being in the bright and cozy setting of Holmes and Hills Solicitors will create a realistic and magical experience for visitors.”
The event is being organised and funded by Sudbury Town Council but it is keen to hear from businesses who would like to be involved in sponsoring any of the attractions.
Meanwhile, there was a record number of entries for the Christmas Card competition with 504 entries.
A presentation ceremony was held at the Town Hall on Tuesday with the winning design being chosen and Grace will attend Delta Print, next week, to see her card go into print before she joins the Mayor for the lights switching on ceremony. The cards will then be used by the mayor to send out over Christmas.
