Playing field fence’s kaleidoscopic makeover pleases (almost) everyone

A playing field fence was given a colourful makeover by volunteers aiming to complete 1,000 hours of service to their community.

Woodbridge Quay Church dedicated October to donating time for the benefit of the town and surrounding area.

One of the projects saw volunteers aged one to 81 help paint a fence surrounding the play area at Kingston Field, with several hundred of pounds worth of paint donated free of charge by the local branch of building supply firm Jewson.

Among those taking up a brush was the mayor, Clare Perkins, who called it “such a wonderful community project – and one that has brought so many happy smiles.”

Quay Church minister Doug Waller said it was a chance to bless the community.

But not everyone was delighted by the outcome, with the paint job receiving two complaints, according to the mayor.

“I have every respect for their views, but most people seemed to love it,” she added.
