Pc King said the girl was on the platform of the station when the incident happened.

He said: "There were not many people around at the time but people were in the area and we are appealing for witnesses.

Detectives are investigating an assault in Chelmsford which has left a 15-year-old with severe facial injuries.

The boy was walking with his friends along Stonebridge Walk near Marks & Spencer when he was approached by a group of about 30 teenagers.

They then began to attack the teenager, who has not been named and comes from Billericay, for no apparent reason.

He was taken to Broomfield Hospital in the town and treated for a cut lip and bruising over his body. He also had several teeth knocked out in the attack.

Investigating officer Det Con Mark Elliott said: "This lad was minding his own business and heading towards the local YMCA through Central Park with a few of his friends.

"He was then set upon in what appears to be an unprovoked attack by this large group of similarly aged youths. The boy and his friends ran towards the town centre when he was again attacked, this time near to Marks and Spencer."

Police are keen to speak to people who may have been on their way out on the evening of Friday, January 17 and could have seen the group of youths acting suspiciously.
