POLICE have made an urgent appeal for witnesses after a 37-year-old woman had a knife held to her throat during a shocking early morning attack in a Suffolk village.

POLICE have made an urgent appeal for witnesses after a 37-year-old woman had a knife held to her throat during a shocking early morning attack in a Suffolk village.

The woman was grabbed from behind by a masked man after she got out of her car in Sudbury Road, Long Melford, at about 8.30am this morning .

A spokesman for Suffolk police said the man did not say anything and let the woman go within a matter of seconds.

The man - whose face was covered by a dark-coloured scarf - has been described as white, 6ft tall wearing a white jacket with the hood up and white tracksuit trousers or bottoms.

Investigating officer Sgt Andrew Mason said people on their way to work or taking children to school could be key witnesses to the incident.
