A 21-year-old man from Harwich has been charged following an alleged jewellery heist in Colchester on Saturday.

Police were called shortly before 11am on July 28 to reports that two men, travelling on a motorbike, had entered the jewellers in Trinity Street and threatened staff with a wheel wrench and a hammer.

The men stole jewellery and watches before leaving the shop. No one was hurt during the incident.

Simon Jacobs, of no fixed address, has been charged with robbery and is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 30.

He has been remanded in custody.

The second man, who was described as wearing a grey tracksuit, black trainers and a white motorcycle helmet, ran off in the direction of Scheregate Steps.
