POLICE are hoping that the release of a computer-generated picture will lead them to two callous burglars who stole £2,500 from an elderly woman.

They struck on the morning of Saturday, December 17, when they called at the 86-year-old woman's home in Rickstones Road, Witham, saying they were from Braintree Council and had come to carry out work on water pipes.

The men showed false identity cards.

While one distracted the woman, the other searched the house and found the cash.

The e-fit picture is of one of them.

He is described as white, aged in his 30s, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 8ins tall, with a northern accent.

Anyone who may recognise the wanted man is asked to contact the Service Desk at Braintree Police Station on 01376 551312.

The investigating officer is Det Con Richard Wardleworth.
