A Suffolk man has admitted possessing more than 60,000 indecent images and videos of children.

Jeremy Durrant pleaded guilty to seven charges relating to storing and sharing child pornography at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old, of Withersfield Road, Haverhill, could face jail when sentenced by a crown court judge at a date yet to be confirmed.

Police found tens of thousands of images on four devices seized from Durrant last May.

He pleaded guilty to possessing 1,624 images and 125 videos in the most serious ‘A’ category, 2,072 images and 125 videos in category B, and 56,499 images and 149 videos in category C on or before May 18, 2017.

He also admitted possessing a further seven prohibited images of a child on or before May 18, and distributing a total of seven category A, seven category B and 13 category C images on or before February 1, 2015.

Category A content is defined as involving penetrative sexual activity, sexual activity with an animal, or sadism.

Category B involves non-penetrative sexual activity.

Category C covers other indecent images not falling within categories A or B.

Prosecutor David Bryant said police executed a warrant in connection with a level A image posted on the internet.

Distribution includes possession with a view to distributing or sharing indecent content.

Mr Bryant said that, given the sheer number of images and videos, the offences were beyond the sentencing powers of magistrates, and he invited the bench to decline jurisdiction.

Peter Butterfield, representing Durrant, conceded the case would be more appropriately dealt with by a judge in the crown court.

He said his client wished to enter guilty plea indications to all charges at the earliest possible opportunity.

Durrant was released on conditional bail until his sentencing.

He was immediately placed on the sex offenders’ register.

Magistrates asked that the probation service begins preparing reports recommending the most appropriate sentence for Durrant.

His sentencing was committed to Ipswich Crown Court on a date to be confirmed.
