Firefighters are attempting to rescue a casualty following a collision between a van and a BMW.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue were called at 6.45 to reports of a collision between two vehicles on the eastbound side of the A14 at junction 37 with the Newmarket Bypass.

Police were called to the scene minutes later.

The crash, involving a white Fiat van and a white BMW, trapped a driver who is currently being rescued by fire officers.

Three engines were sent to the scene, one from Mildenhall and two from Newmarket, with firefighters removing the roof of one of the vehicles in order to extract the casualty.

An East of England Ambulance is on route.

The collision has blocked the eastbound side of the carriageway.

Reports suggest that traffic is currently building on the A14 from Rowley Mile Services to junction 37 at the A142 and Fordham Road.

Motorists are averaging just 5mph with delays of up to 9 minutes expected.
